  • How you can't lose collecting Hot Toys

So for the last year or so my bank account has pretty much belonged to Hot Toys. I was curious just how much does the full Avengers collection actually cost (retail price). I added them all up and came up with $3079.87.

That price is including the core Avengers cast (with Banner even though he's not out yet), the Mark 6 (Movie Promo), the Mark 7 (Movie Promo), and the Chitauri 2-pack.

That's quite a bit of dough right? Then I was curious just how much these figures are actually worth on the secondary market (aka eBay). I came up with $4769, which is using an average of the selling price when the figures have actually sold. For the un-released figures I have just added in the retail price (Bruce Banner $189, Chitauri 2-Pack $475).

Pretty amazing and just goes to show that you just can't lose if you collect Hot Toys' Popular licenses. That is key here.

I completely agree, Predators are good but specially Iron Man and Batman are good investments, and also you can sell your old stuff and get new figures.

no arguments from me on this!
i know they are a worthwhile investment
i just like to keep my toy budget a little lower overall, so 6 inch and some 3.75 is primarily where i will stay... FOR NOW lol
i am really moving into the neca 1/4 area, so i imagine hot toys 1/6 will be my next step in toy buying evolution

on a another thought i am wondering how the 6 inch and 3.75 full lines compare new prices vs open loose price
i know for sure the loose price on those will be way less than the new retail price, but i am wondeirng about the over alls... lol should note i had 0 interest in getting these full lines though

I suppose you could compare them to those Walmart Exclusive Avengers figures that were released when the movie hit theaters?

Well either way, the price increase on them isn't very much, maybe $10 (packaged)? Hot Toys can be opened and still be worth double.

oh yeah, i wasnt denying that
hot toys dont go down, they only go up in value if the condition is good

i meant total price for all those same characters in a different scale/style

For other toys, depending on the line I think the percentage more that each of the figures is worth might be comparable. The difference with smaller toys is that you aren't going to make as much money obviously, the figures and their cards have to be 100% MINT, and it really depends on the line of figures. Exclusives are some that really compare, but for normal release toys I find them pretty incomparable to the Hot Toys markup.

For example if you look at those Avengers Movie Figures that were Walmart exclusive, they are worth about $10 more then when they were released. The original SRP was $15, so the % marked up is comparable to the Hot Toys figure markup.

Hot Toys markup = 64% (this is with some unreleased figures)
Walmart Exclusvie Avengers movie figures markup = 66%

haha compared to the value change (DECREASE) when you open and play with smaller figures

Yeah, then they are pretty much worthless.

Hot Toys collecting is probably a bit better than buying Gold or Silver coins. It only takes a year to 3 years to see a 100% increase in value on these figures.
Certain ones on ebay can go for $900+. Even if broken down you could make a nice profit. A few female figures are worth over $100 for their head alone.

I think I might have even seen one version of Tony Stark's head up on eBay for almost $200.
